Course Description
This module includes a brief overview of the physiology of gas exchange and partial pressures, along with steps toward rapid blood gas interpretation. You will also gain a clinical understanding of metabolic acidosis-alkalosis and respiratory acidosis-alkalosis including exercises in differentiation. It also includes a case scenario that puts into practice what the learner understands of the material.

Describe the process of lactic acidosis and the levels of compensation

Describe the physiology, etiology, and causes of metabolic acidosis-alkalosis and respiratory acidosis- alkalosis

Perform basic blood gas interpretation based on the steps described within this module

Describe the REEDA approach to incision assessment

Describe potential corrective actions for a pH that is either acidotic and alkalotic

Describe procedures for Allen test, insertion, removal and care of an arterial line
